Jim S's first official KLR ride

On Dec. 7, 2006 six of us (Doug, William, Jim S., Dick, Don, and Jim T.) got together to help Jim S. try out his new (to him) 2006 (I think) 2000 mi (or was that 4000 mi.) , glow in the dark, green KLR on his first dual sport ride.

Now, please realize we have fairly loose standards as to what constitutes an official dual sport ride but it has to at least contain the following:
1). Have some riding on gravel
2). Get lost at least once
3). At least one detour. (2 if your using a GPS)

The "Detour"

Please observe Don's new $10 on sale at Sears travel trunk>>>>>>>>>>>>

At least we made it to Westport in time to catch the 1:15 ferry!

What the heck do you mean it's $2 for each bike. That's $10 and we're only taking up the space of one car!

Oh well, we still had enough money left for a gourmet lunch at Cathlemet.

Group photo op.

Summary: Jim S. passed his first "official" dual sport ride with flying colors.

The Great Snow Ride

Well last Thursday (Nov. 30) Don, after much lobbying by Doug, gave in to the lure of owning a Mighty KLR and bought a nearly new 2004 with only 500 mi. on it.

Don was anxious to try it out so Doug set up a little ride on Sat. (Dec. 2) from around Bradley Hill on Hwy 30 to Birkenfeld on Hwy 202. Sounds simple enough!!

Heck, what's a little snow. We should start dropping down pretty soon.

Or maybe not!!!

We thought we were doing pretty good until 4 guys on quads came blasting by.

After much perseverance and one or two minor mishaps (read...falling down) we arrived at the Birkenfeld Cafe for a much needed burger.

We were all anxious to ride back the way we came but since............ahem..........it was getting late decided it would be prudent to ride back to Astorville on Hwy 202. Don made it through his inaugural ride with flying colors. I think he even wants to go again!
Lots of elk at the preserve.
